Vehicle Motion Detection

Vehicle Motion Detection uses Motion & Fitness activity to detect automotive movement. When automotive activity is detected with enough confidence, Travel Logs starts a trip for the selected vehicle.

Set up motion detection

  1. Open Vehicles.
  2. Select the vehicle.
  3. Turn on Vehicle Motion Detection Automation.
  4. Allow Motion & Fitness permission if prompted.
  5. Save the vehicle.

Only one vehicle can have Vehicle Motion Detection Automation enabled at a time.

How trips start and stop

When the device reports automotive activity with medium or higher confidence, Travel Logs starts a trip for the tracked vehicle.

When the device later reports non-automotive activity with medium or higher confidence, Travel Logs stops the trip only if that trip was started by Vehicle Motion Detection.

This protects manually started trips from being stopped immediately by a motion update.

Requirements

  • Motion & Fitness permission must be allowed.
  • The device must support motion activity.
  • Background App Refresh and notifications are recommended.
  • Live tracking should be enabled if you want GPS distance and route details.

Limitations

Motion activity is based on device sensor classification. It may start or stop later than a direct trigger such as Bluetooth, NFC, or CarPlay.

If motion detection is unreliable for your routine, try Bluetooth Automation, NFC Tags, or CarPlay Automation.
