Automation Overview

Automation helps Travel Logs start and stop trips without opening the app every time.

Automatic Tracking

Automatic tracking is available in 2 modes:

Automatic mode will use all available sources and sensors on your device to detect when to start and stop your trips. It will also learn and adapt to your routines if you have Travel Logs intelligence enabled.

Advanced mode lets you select your preferred sources and sensors to use. Adaptive learning is not available on this mode.

Automatic tracking source options

  • Bluetooth: Uses a selected hands-free Bluetooth device. It is a good choice when your vehicle has a reliable hands-free Bluetooth connection

  • Places and Geofencing: Starts or stops when you leave or arrive at saved places. Places are useful for regular locations, such as home, work, depots, or job sites.

  • CarPlay: Uses CarPlay connection and disconnection. CarPlay source is useful when the vehicle has CarPlay.

  • Motion Detection: Uses Motion & Fitness activity to detect automotive movement. It is useful when you want movement-based detection and your device supports Motion & Fitness activity.

NFC tags

NFC tags can start or stop a trip when you scan a written NFC tag.

Requirements

Most automation works best with:

  • Location set to Always.
  • Notifications allowed.
  • Background App Refresh enabled.
  • Live tracking enabled when you want distance and route detail.

Some automation triggers need additional setup:

  • Bluetooth needs a connected hands-free device selected in Vehicle Details or Place Details.
  • Places need an address and radius.
  • NFC needs a writable NFC tag.
  • Motion detection needs Motion & Fitness permission.
  • CarPlay and motion detection are each limited to one active vehicle at a time.

What automation records

Automated trips use the same trip records as manual trips. They can include start and stop time, vehicle, location, distance, route, classification, and notes.

You can review automated trips in History and adjust classification if needed.
