Start, stop, and review trips with GPS distance, routes, odometer values, and locations.

Trips and Live Tracking

Trips record when and where a vehicle journey starts and ends. You can create trips manually or let automation create them for you.

Starting and stopping a trip

Start a trip manually

  1. Open Activity.
  2. Tap on +.
  3. Choose the vehicle.
  4. Start the trip.

Travel Logs records the start time immediately. If location access is available, it also fills the start location. If Prefill Odometer is enabled, the starting odometer uses the previous stop odometer for the vehicle.

Stop a trip

When you stop a trip, Travel Logs records the stop time, destination, and distance. If Live tracking is enabled, the app uses GPS distance. If Live tracking was interrupted, Travel Logs may estimate the stop odometer and add a note to the trip.

Creating a past trip

  1. Open Activity.
  2. Tap on +.
  3. Choose the vehicle.
  4. Tap on New Trip.
  5. Tap on In-Progress and set the stop date and time.
  6. Fill in the rest of the details.
  7. Tap on Start/Save.

Live tracking

Live tracking uses GPS while the trip is active. It enables:

  • Real-time distance updates.
  • Accurate stop odometer calculation from distance traveled.
  • Watch and widget trip status updates.
  • Route recording when Routes is also enabled.

You can turn Live on or off in Settings.

Route recording

Routes records the path taken during a trip. Route recording depends on Live tracking and location access.

Routes can be reviewed from History by using the View Route action on a trip.

If a trip was recorded but route points or distance are missing, check whether Live tracking and Routes were enabled before the trip started.

Locations and addresses

Autofill Locations fills origins and destinations from the device location. When a trip is started or stopped by a saved place, the saved place address can be used for the trip location.

If the address cannot be found, the trip may show a fallback message instead of a full address.

In-progress trips

Active trips show as in progress until stopped. Automation and companion features use the same active trip state, so a trip started by Bluetooth, NFC, Watch, CarPlay, or motion detection can still be reviewed in the app.

Use History to review completed trips.
