Trip Recovery

Trip Recovery helps you find drives that may not have been recorded as trips. It does not add anything to your trip history automatically. Each possible trip stays in your Inbox until you review it.

Finding a missed trip

How Trip Recovery Works

When Travel Logs detects vehicle motion without a matching recorded trip, it may create a missed-trip suggestion. Suggestions can also be created when automatic tracking cannot start because you have reached your plan's trip limit.

To reduce false suggestions, Travel Logs normally looks for:

  • At least 4 minutes of vehicle motion.
  • At least 1 km (0.6 mi) of movement when suitable location samples are available.
  • No existing trip that overlaps the detected time.
  • No trip already in progress when the drive begins.

Short motion events and drives already covered by another trip are ignored.

Review a Missed Trip

  1. Open the side menu and select Inbox.
  2. Find the suggestion under Missed Trips.
  3. Tap the card or swipe Add Trip to open the review screen.
  4. Choose the vehicle used for the drive.
  5. Choose Automatic, Business, or Personal as the trip type.
  6. Add optional notes.
  7. Tap Add Trip.

The recovered trip is added to your normal trip history and can be edited like any other trip.

When location samples are available, Travel Logs attempts to add the origin and destination addresses. The distance and odometer values are estimates and should be checked before using the trip for reporting or tax purposes.

Dismiss a Suggestion

If the detected drive was not a trip, swipe Dismiss in the Inbox or choose Not a Trip on the review screen. Dismissed suggestions are removed from the active Inbox.

Vehicle Selection

Travel Logs may suggest a vehicle when one can be identified confidently. Otherwise, the suggestion displays Vehicle needed and you must choose a vehicle before adding the trip.

Trip Recovery never creates a completed trip without a selected vehicle.

Plan Limits

Recovered trips count toward the same limits as manually or automatically recorded trips.

If you use the free plan and have reached the monthly trip limit, the missed-trip suggestion remains in your Inbox, but it cannot be added until you have available capacity or upgrade your plan.

Permissions

Trip Recovery works best when these permissions are enabled:

  • Motion & Fitness: Detects vehicle motion.
  • Location: Provides location samples for distance estimates and addresses.
  • Notifications: Alerts you when a missed trip is ready to review.

Open Settings > Tracking > Permissions Configuration to check their status.

Trip Recovery can still produce a low-confidence suggestion when location samples are unavailable, but the distance and addresses may remain blank.

Turn Trip Recovery On or Off

Trip Recovery is enabled by default.

To change it:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Tracking.
  3. Turn Trip Recovery on or off.

Turning it off stops Travel Logs from detecting new missed trips and abandons any detection currently in progress. Suggestions already waiting in your Inbox remain available for review or dismissal.

Privacy and Data

Missed-trip suggestions are stored locally on your device in a small database separate from your main Travel Logs data. Suggestions are not added to trip history, reports, exports, or sync until you choose Add Trip.

Trip Recovery uses motion events and available location samples. It does not start continuous route recording solely to create a missed-trip suggestion.

Troubleshooting

No missed trips appear

  • Confirm Trip Recovery is enabled in Settings.
  • Open Permissions Configuration and check Motion & Fitness and Location.
  • Confirm the drive lasted at least 4 minutes.
  • Check whether another trip already covers the same time.

The distance or addresses are blank

Location access may have been unavailable, or Travel Logs may not have received suitable location samples at the start and end of the drive. You can add or correct these details after creating the trip.

A suggestion cannot be added

Select a vehicle and check whether your plan's trip limit has been reached. The suggestion remains available until you add or dismiss it.
