Places and Geofencing
Create saved places that start trips when you leave and stop trips when you arrive.
Places and Geofencing
Places let Travel Logs react to location boundaries. A place can start a trip when you leave, stop a trip when you arrive, or both.
Create a place
- Open Places.
- Add a new place.
- Enter a name.
- Select an address and radius.
- Choose the vehicle.
- Turn on Start on Leave, Stop on Arrival, or both.
- Save the place.
Travel Logs registers the place as a geofence after it is saved.
Start on leave
Start on Leave starts a trip for the assigned vehicle when you leave the place boundary.
This is useful for locations where trips usually begin, such as home, work, a depot, or a parking location.
Stop on arrival
Stop on Arrival stops the active trip for the assigned vehicle when you enter the place boundary.
This is useful for destinations where trips usually end.
Optional Bluetooth validation
Places can also require a Bluetooth device. When Bluetooth is enabled for a place, the place action runs only if the selected Bluetooth device is connected.
This helps reduce false starts or stops when you pass near a saved place without using the vehicle.
Permissions
Geofencing requires Location set to Always. Background App Refresh and notifications are also recommended so Travel Logs can react in the background and tell you when a trip starts or ends.
If location permission is not ready, the place can still be saved, but automation will activate only after permission is granted.
Duplicate trigger protection
Travel Logs uses a short cooldown for location triggers so repeated entry or exit events do not create duplicate actions immediately.
See Automation Troubleshooting if a place does not trigger.
