Automation Troubleshooting

Fix common issues with trip automation, permissions, Bluetooth, NFC, CarPlay, motion detection, and missing automatic starts or stops.

Automation Troubleshooting

If automation does not start or stop trips as expected, start with the basic checks below, then follow the section that matches the automation you are using.

For wider issues such as missing trip data, sync delays, or subscription status not being recognised, see Tracking, Sync, Automation, and Subscription Troubleshooting.

Start with these checks

Confirm:

  • You are signed in to the correct Travel Logs account.
  • The correct vehicle is selected and saved for the automation.
  • Notifications are allowed so Travel Logs can confirm starts and stops.
  • Background App Refresh is enabled.
  • The app has the permissions required for the automation you are using.

Check permissions first

Open Settings, then Permissions Configuration.

Confirm:

  • Location is set to Always (iOS) or Allow all the time (Android).
  • Notifications are allowed.
  • Motion & Fitness is allowed if using Vehicle Motion Detection.
  • Siri is allowed if using Siri Shortcuts.
  • Background App Refresh is available (iOS).
  • Battery optimisation is disable (Android)

Places Troubleshooting

Check that:

  • The place has an address and radius.
  • The place is assigned to the correct vehicle.
  • Start on Leave or Stop on Arrival is enabled.
  • Location permission is set to Always.
  • If Bluetooth validation is enabled for the place, the selected Bluetooth device is connected.

Travel Logs uses a short cooldown to avoid duplicate geofence actions, so repeated attempts may be ignored for a brief time.

If trips start from the place but route or distance details are missing, check Trips and Live Tracking to confirm Live and Routes were enabled before the trip began.

Bluetooth Troubleshooting

Check that:

  • The selected Bluetooth device is connected to the device.
  • The device is the same one saved in Vehicle Details or Place Details.
  • The Bluetooth automation switch is enabled.
  • The device appears in the Bluetooth selector when connected.

If the device is not listed, reconnect it to the iPhone and try selecting it again.

If the vehicle is shared or you recently switched accounts, open History and pull to sync before testing again.

NFC Troubleshooting

Check that:

  • Your device supports NFC tag reading.
  • The tag was written from the correct vehicle.
  • The tag is close enough to the device's NFC reader area.
  • The tag has not been overwritten by another app or record.

If needed, write the tag again from Vehicle Details.

CarPlay Troubleshooting

Check that:

  • CarPlay is being used.
  • CarPlay Automation is enabled on the correct vehicle.
  • No other vehicle already has this automation enabled.
  • Notifications are allowed so you can see trip start and stop messages.

Ensure only one vehicle uses Wireless CarPlay Automation at a time.

Motion Detection Troubleshooting

Check that:

  • Motion & Fitness permission is allowed.
  • Vehicle Motion Detection Automation is enabled on the correct vehicle.
  • No other vehicle already has motion detection enabled.
  • The device supports motion activity.

Motion Detection stops only trips that it started. Manually started trips are not stopped automatically by motion changes.

Fleet submission issues

If Submit Records is empty or disabled, check that:

  • You are signed in.
  • Your account has a fleet team.
  • A fleet team is selected.
  • An active vehicle exists.
  • The selected date period contains records.
  • The records have not already been submitted.

If a submission fails, try again after sync completes and confirm the account is online.

If you need a broader checklist for trip tracking, sync, or missing records, return to Tracking, Sync, Automation, and Subscription Troubleshooting.
